Chad Tracy

Chad Tracy

Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Austin, Texas

Born in Avalon, Wisconsin, Chad Tracy was drawn to music at an early age, playing an old piano in the basement of his parent’s farmhouse. His mother and sister played piano. He joined his first band at age 14 and played cover songs by Metallica and Gun’s and Roses at his high school along with some early attempts at songwriting.

After moving with his band out to Oakland, California, he had the chance to share the stage with Karl Denson and His Tiny Universe and learn about jazz with a wide array of legendary artists.

After studying music at The University of The Arts in Philadelphia he moved to Austin, Texas in 2002.

These days he teaches guitar, bass, and piano at The Greater Austin Music Academy and plays a weekly residency gig at Friends Bar on Sixth Street.

In the Austin area he has performed at The Elephant Room, The Gallery, The Four Seasons, and The Driskill among many other venues.

Press / Reviews

Tracy, who penned the majority of the tunes, possesses an eye and ear for traditional twang, writing of relationships and places he's been with rare self-confidence in a debut effort. The Tex-Mex flavored "The Border," sweetly shuffling "Right Time of the Night," and rambunctious title track all stand out, especially with the unshakable backing of fiddler Erik Hokkanen and Bradley Williams' accordion.” - Jim Caligiuri
